Finding storage solutions for your home is a function-forward task. But it doesn’t mean you can’t be creative. Some of the best storage ideas come from reimagining everyday items for different purposes. A combination of creative, functional, and attractive solutions can make home organization exciting. The experts at NEAT Method understand this well.
Ashley Murphy, co-founder and CEO of NEAT Method, and Marissa Hagmeyer, co-founder and COO of NEAT Method, share their favorite storage ideas, including those used in the 2024 Real Simple Home.
Use Metal Baskets for Prettier Organizing: Sometimes storage can’t be hidden or tucked away. In the 2024 Real Simple Home pantry, perforated metal baskets were used. They conceal items and add visual texture to shelves. Opting for baskets in substantial materials like metal or wood elevates the overall look and makes it easier to incorporate storage solutions into the room’s design.
Use Spice Racks Throughout Your Pantry: Spice racks aren’t just for spices. In the 2024 Real Simple Home, a spice rack was used to organize canned goods. It provides an overall visual of the category and reduces the risk of items getting lost. Spice racks can also be used as risers and organizers for oils and vinegars.
Use Turntables Everywhere: If you haven’t used a turntable for storage, you might think it’s fussy. But it can be highly functional and versatile. Ashley Murphy uses turntables in the kitchen for oil and vinegar and in the laundry room for detergent and stain removers. They offer easy access to upper shelves and prevent items from getting tucked in corners.
Create a Cubby System: Hagmeyer is a fan of a cubby bookshelf with bins for storage. In her home, she uses it to organize toys in her daughters’ playroom. A cubby and bin system is a great choice for areas with lots of items and clutter that can’t be organized neatly into drawers, like near the entryway.
Use Drawer Dividers to Organize Snacks: Snack items can take up a lot of excess space in the pantry.
When dealing with bulky boxes that contain only a few items, a streamlined approach to kitchen storage can be beneficial. Murphy has adopted a method that simplifies the snack storage process for her family. She empties the snacks from their boxes and stores them in a drawer, using drawer dividers to maintain organization.
This method has several advantages. Firstly, it increases the accessibility of snacks, making them easier to find and access. Secondly, it simplifies the snack time, reducing the clutter and confusion that can come with multiple boxes.
