Home Storage Solutions by NEAT Method Experts

Finding storage solutions for your home is a function-forward task. But it doesn’t mean you can’t be creative. Some of the best storage ideas come from reimagining everyday items for different purposes. A combination of creative, functional, and attractive solutions can make home organization exciting. And no one understands this better than the experts at NEAT Method.
Ashley Murphy, co-founder and CEO of NEAT Method, and Marissa Hagmeyer, co-founder and COO of NEAT Method, share their all-time favorite storage ideas, including those incorporated into the 2024 Real Simple Home.

Use Metal Baskets for Prettier Organizing

Sometimes, your storage can’t be easily hidden. So, you need solutions that don’t disrupt your design flow. In the 2024 Real Simple Home pantry, NEAT Method experts used perforated metal baskets. These conceal items inside while adding visual texture to the shelves. Choosing organizing baskets in substantial materials like metal or wood (instead of fabric or plastic) elevates the overall look and makes it easier to incorporate storage solutions into the room’s design.

Use Spice Racks Throughout Your Pantry

Spice racks aren’t just for spices. In the 2024 Real Simple Home, NEAT Method pros used a spice rack in the pantry to organize canned goods. Marissa Hagmeyer says this provides an overall visual of the entire category and reduces the risk of items getting lost at the back of the shelf. You can also use spice racks as risers and organizers for other items in multiples, like oils and vinegars.

Use Turntables Everywhere

If you haven’t used a turntable as a storage solution, you might think it’s fussy. But a turntable can be highly functional and versatile for organizing items throughout your home. Ashley Murphy uses turntables in the kitchen for oil and vinegar and in the laundry room for detergent and stain removers. She says they offer easy access to upper shelves and prevent items from getting tucked in corners.

Create a Cubby System

Hagmeyer is a fan of a cubby bookshelf with bins for storage. In her home, she uses the cubbies to separate and organize toys in her daughters’ playroom. Even if you don’t have young kids’ toys to organize, a cubby and bin system is a great choice for areas with lots of items and clutter that can’t be neatly organized into drawers, like near your entryway.

Use Drawer Dividers to Organize Snacks

Snack items can take up a lot of excess space in the pantry.
Sometimes, you might have three bulky boxes with only one or two items left inside. As a more streamlined alternative, Murphy keeps her family’s snacks in a drawer. She empties the snacks out of their boxes and uses drawer dividers to keep them organized. ‘This increases accessibility and simplifies snack time,’ she says.
