7 Decor Swaps for a Minimalist Bathroom

Your bathroom should be a sanctuary for relaxation. A minimalist look can create an ideal ambiance. But it doesn’t mean gutting everything. A simple change can have a major impact.
Sarah Latham, principal designer of Latham Interiors, and Kathryn Murphy, founder of Kathryn Murphy Interiors, offer these tips.

Say Bye Bye to Extra Bottles: Declutter almost empty bottles and products you don’t use. Limit what you leave out on sinks, vanities, and shelves. Remove clutter like unnecessary lotions, potions, knick-knacks, and overdone toilet accessories. If not ready to edit down products, keep as many out of sight for a streamlined look.

Decant What You Can: Decant hand soap into a beautiful container to remove visual clutter. Add a small wooden tray to contain items. Use bar-based shampoos and soaps instead of bottles.

Minimize Accessories: Eliminate unnecessary accessories. If your toilet paper holder stores too many rolls, find a better spot. If you rarely use cotton balls, don’t display them in a jar.

Skip the Under-the-Sink Storage: If you don’t store much, get rid of the huge vanity under the sink. A vanity on legs or a floating shelf creates a simple, minimal space.

When It Comes to Colors, Less Is More: Limiting your color palette creates a minimalist look. Whether accessorizing or changing tiles, keep colors tight. Start with neutral colors like white and beige and add a pop of bold color like green or navy.

Swap Out Towel Bars for Hooks: Hardware can make a bathroom feel cluttered. Replace bulky towel bars with sleek hooks. Renters can use stick-on hooks to avoid damaging walls.

Get Rid of Your Shower Curtain: Shower curtains can make a bathroom feel cluttered, especially a small one.
Maximize your bathroom space by replacing the curtain with a glass door or panel if possible.

If a glass door isn’t an option, consider choosing a minimalistic curtain and hooks.

Don’t think you’re limited to boring choices; opt for a neutral color in a natural texture.
